A change that is more
than just a move
Moving to a nursing home is rarely just a small organizational act. It is a transition – sometimes sudden, sometimes planned. Sometimes also unavoidable. The need for care changes not only daily life but entire living conditions.
For many family members, moving to a nursing home marks the beginning of a completely new chapter – associated with questions, responsibility, and sometimes overwhelm. We want to give you real support in this situation. With humanity, with experience – and with clear support.

What happens to the
apartment?
Giving up the previous apartment is difficult. And yet: In most cases, it cannot be avoided. When a person in need of care moves permanently to a senior facility, it is important to clarify all legal and organizational steps.
An important point in this context: the special right of termination when moving to a nursing home. It allows tenants to have a shortened notice period – often three months, even for indefinite contracts. We are happy to support you in contacting the property management and with the formal termination.
What about
insurance and subscriptions?
In addition to the apartment, there are many other contracts that need to be adjusted or terminated – electricity, telephone, household contents, and yes: the GEZ. Many family members wonder: How do I cancel GEZ when moving to a nursing home?
Answer: As soon as you no longer have your own household, you can deregister – with proof of the nursing home placement. The corresponding form is straightforward. If you’re still unsure: We help with filling it out.

What is the
basic equipment for a nursing home?
Most nursing homes provide what is called basic equipment. This typically includes: a nursing bed, a nightstand, a wardrobe, and possibly a small table. What can be brought in addition – a television, a reading chair, pictures, books – depends on the space and the respective house rules.
We are happy to advise you on making the appropriate selection. Less is often more – but it’s the right things that count.

Who decides on admission to a nursing home?
This is one of the most sensitive questions. The decision is not always voluntary. Need for care changes many things – often the medical environment, the family doctor, or the social service needs to be involved.
As a rule, the decision lies with the family, together with doctors and nursing experts. We often experience that relatives doubt whether they are “doing the right thing”. Understandable. That’s why good advice is so important – not just for the move itself, but beforehand.
What else you should know
A move like this is not a project that you just “get through”. It is a transition. A letting go. And sometimes also a relief.
We take this seriously – and are there when it gets difficult. Not perfect, but reliable. And always ready to discuss the difficult questions too.
Would you just like to get information first?
Very gladly. Call us – or write to us.
Address change, care level, contracts – what else is important
The actual journey is often the smallest problem. But around it, there’s much to do: address change at the registration office, changes to insurance policies, registration with the new nursing service, arrangements with the nursing staff.
In addition, there’s coordination with relatives, nursing insurance funds, and sometimes the office for the payment of nursing benefits. We help you keep track – with a clear roadmap and, if desired, with specific contacts.
What can you bring? And what’s better left behind?
What can be brought to a nursing home often depends on the available space. The items that really count are usually not large: a photo album, a favorite pillow, a familiar piece of furniture.
Our checklist for moving to a nursing home helps to set priorities. You can also receive this as a PDF on request – for checking off, planning, and discussing together.
Who pays for the move to a nursing home – and what is covered?
Here too: It depends on the individual case. If no savings are available, an application for cost coverage for moving to a nursing home can be made. The nursing insurance fund, the social welfare office, or other bodies can help under certain conditions – for example, with financing the apartment clearance, transportation, or necessary packing assistance.
Even those who already receive benefits according to SGB XII should check whether additional documents are necessary for a moving cost application. We support the application process – and tell you honestly what is realistic.
Empathetic senior moves – with time and understanding
Whether in your own home, in assisted living, or on the way to the next senior facility – we design senior moves with respect. Every person brings their own story. Our task is to create the appropriate framework for it.
And yes: It’s okay to talk in between. About old times, about favorite furniture, or about what remains.
Help with apartment clearance
The question, who pays for the apartment clearance when moving to a nursing home, depends on income and assets. Often, family members take on this task themselves. But this is not always possible – be it for time reasons or emotional burden.
We offer you complete solutions: from clearance to transport to the clean handover. On request, we also take care of mail forwarding, no-parking zones, and the final key handover to the landlord.
